We’re really excited to announce these great events for the gathering this year. To help with planning, we’d really appreciate it if you could complete the form below to let us know more details about you and your preference for Saturday’s trips, and Sunday’s workshops.

Please ensure that you complete this form for each person booked, even if you wish to do the same visits!

The arrival time on Friday 8th October is from 5pm, with dinner at 6pm and evening events after that. The departure time on Sunday 10th is after lunch at around 2pm. We will send an email out with more details of the weekend and a full program the week beforehand.

Saturday 9th Oct – Trips

Each trip is for 3 hours (including travel) and there will be one in the morning and another in the afternoon (except the montane hike which is all day). Have a read of each and pick your top 3! We’ll do our best to make sure everyone gets their preference and will contact you before the gathering to let you know which ones you will be doing. There are no extra costs for any of the trips.

Led by Thomas MacDonnell from Wildland Ltd, the walk will showcase some of the work the estate have done in promoting natural regeneration of pinewoods, and montane habitats as well as discussing peatland restoration and plantation restructuring projects.

Accessibility: This will be a 2 hour moderate walk over some rough terrain requiring a reasonable level of fitness.

Travel: A car is required to drive to Glen Feshie, though we can organise car sharing if needed.

A half-day trip to Tore Hill, where the RSPB are restructuring a Scots Pine plantation to improve its ecological functioning. Led by site manager Uwe Stoneman, this visit will be a great opportunity to discuss active forest management in a national nature reserve, and to learn what the RSPB are doing to manage the landscape for people and wildlife.

Accessibility: This will be a 4km, fairly easy walk through the forest requiring a reasonable level of fitness.

Travel: A car is required to drive to Abernethy, though we can organise car sharing if needed.

Learn more about their wildcat breeding programme, including developing Britain’s first dedicated conservation breeding for release centre for wildcats, which will support a long-term vision for wildcat recovery in other key locations of Scotland. Plus of course you’ll get to see the diverse range of animals at the park including wildcats, lynx and wolves. Further info here.

Accessibility: This will be a 2 hour tour around the park suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Travel: A car is required to drive to the park, though we can organise car sharing if needed.

Co-led by Plantlife’s Gwenda Diack and local Gaelic expert Seumas Grannd, this walk will start and finish at the Badaguish Outdoor Centre, so no driving required! The group will wander through the local landscape, learning about the botany, ecology and gaelic culture of the region. There will be opportunities to forage and learn the gaelic names of plants and animals found in the Highlands.

Accessibility: This will be a 2 hour slow walk suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Travel: Starting from Badaguish centre so no transport required.

Try your hand at woodcarving with Wooden Tom, making a carved bird bauble in the woods. You will learn how to select the right wood, safe use of tools and how to finish your items. We will be using Swedish carving knives to shape locally sourced Scottish timber into your birds, paint them and add a hanging cord.

Accessibility: Suitable for all, aged 11 and above. The carving session will be outside so wrap up warm.

Travel: The course will be in the woods at Badaguish centre so no transport required.

Led by Gus Routledge. Take a hike up Creag Fhiaclach in search of montane plants and particularly in search of mountain birches above 650m as part of the Mountain Birch Project.

Accessibility: This will be a full day hike in the Cairngorm mountains covering challenging terrain so a good level of fitness is required.

Travel: A car is required to get to the starting point, though we can organise car sharing if needed.

Note that this is a full day event, so you will not be able to do any other events as well.
